Nani put the league leaders ahead in the third minute but George Elokobi and Kevin Doyle scored before halftime for a defensively superb Wolves side.

But Arsenal was unable to take full advantage of United's slip up, throwing away a four-goal lead to draw 4-4 at Newcastle in the highest scoring day in Premier League history.

The second-place Gunners were 4-0 up at halftime but had Abou Diaby sent off in the 50th minute for pushing over Joey Barton's in reaction to the Newcastle midfielder's tough challenge. Barton scored a penalty to spark the comeback before a goal by Leon Best, another penalty by Barton and Cheik Tiote's 87th-minute equalizer.

United is four points ahead of Arsenal after a day that featured a record 41 goals from eight matches.

Carlos Tevez scored all Manchester City's goals in a 3-0 win over West Bromwich Albion, and Louis Saha hit four as Everton beat Blackpool 5-3.

Niko Kranjcar's injury-time winner gave Tottenham a 2-1 win over Bolton, Clint Dempsey hit his 10th goal of the season to earn Fulham's 2-2 draw at Aston Villa, Stoke beat Sunderland 3-2, and Wigan beat Blackburn 4-3 to climb out of the relegation zone.

Manchester City 3 West Bromwich Albion 0
Carlos Tevez got the perfect birthday present - a hat-trick and the three points - as Manchester City tore West Bromwich Albion apart 3-0 at Eastlands.

The City skipper turned 27 and celebrated by smashing in a first-half treble to give Roberto Mancini's men their first win in four games.

It was crucial that the Blues recovered from their mini slump - and this result was never in doubt with Tevez putting the finishing touches to City's overall dominance.

Newcastle 4 Arsenal 4
Arsenal cruised into a four-goal lead after 26 minutes and seemed set for an easy victory as the home fans headed for the exits.

But, after Abou Diaby was sent-off early in the second half, the game was turned on its head as the hosts mounted an incredible comeback that could have ended with them taking all three points.

In the end they had to settle for a draw after two Joey Barton penalties, a Leon Best strike and Cheik Tiote's outrageous 30-yard volley as the game headed into injury-time.

Tottenham 2 Bolton 1
The home side could not have asked for a better start and took the lead with only four minutes on the clock.

Van der Vaart's free-kick form the edge of the area caused panic in the box, the ball striking Kevin Davies on the arm leaving referee Mark Clattenburg no choice but to point to the spot. The Dutchman coolly dispatched the penalty for his 10th English Premier League goal this season.

Rafael van der Vaart's penalty was however cancelled out by Daniel Sturridge's second-half effort.

In the end, substitute Kranjcar, who had only been on the pitch for 12 minutes, scored a spectacular 93rd-minute goal to give Spurs all three points in their 2-1 triumph.
