LOS ANGELES: The principal of a California school was killed Wednesday in a shooting which triggered an emergency lockdown, police said.
The suspected gunman, a janitor, was arrested following the mid-morning shooting at the Schnell School in Placerville, northeast of San Francisco, said local police chief George Nielsen.
The principal, 50-year-old Sam LaCara, was shot in the chest and taken to a local hospital, but was pronounced dead shortly after, he said, appealing for privacy for his family.
Anxious parents rushed to the school after it was locked down around 10:30 am, but their children were not allowed out until the all-clear was given after the arrest at his home of a janitor, named as John Luebbers.
