Safe riding course for motorcyclists to reduce accident rates

SINGAPORE : The number of accidents involving motorcyclists on expressways has been going up.

In the first nine months of this year, there were 915 accidents - about 48 more than last year.

Of these, 21 were fatal accidents.

So the Traffic Police launched the safe riding course on expressways for new motorcycle licence holders last week, in bid to reduce accident rates.

The first batch of riders from Bukit Batok Driving Centre took off on Monday for their Expressway Familiarisation Ride (EFR).

Riders are taught how to ride within the lane and not to straddle between two lanes.

The course duration is 100 minutes, and is conducted from Monday to Saturday from 9.30am to 12.30pm and from 2pm to 4pm.
