Michigan does not have the Death Penalty so this is the harshest sentence that could be handed.

This was an utterly senseless murder. On December 28, 2008, at 0030 hrs, Officer Samborski, a 4 year veteran to the Department, had stopped this thug, who was 16 years old at the time, for a vehicle infraction and then learned he had no license. Instead of arresting him, the Officer drove him home to have an adult take custody but Belton lied about the address so Ofc. Samborski attempted an arrest. This bastard decided he should fight with Mason and during the struggle, shot this Hero in the head, killing our beloved Brother. The killer then fled the scene but was apprehended a short time later when his father and pastor turned him in.

At sentencing, Ofc. Samborski's widow had this to say to her husband's cold-blooded killer, "Jonathan Belton, you shattered my happiness, my hopes and my dreams, and for that, I will never forgive you.”

Sarah, we pray you can take some comfort knowing that you will be looked after and that your baby daughter will always know how her Daddy Lived As Only A Hero Could. Please hold on to your courage that you have had since meeting and marrying Mason. Your selflessness to 'share' your husband so he could do what he was born to do does not go unnoticed. we will forever be grateful to Officer Samborski and also to you.

When Brother Mason was killed, his baby girl was only 13 months old. He also left behind his beloved bride Sarah, his parents, a brother and sister and extended family. Our heartfelt thoughts and prayers go out to the Samborski family as well as to all the Men and Women of the Oak Park Department Of Public.

Though these reminders of just how dangerous this job can be and how much is sacrificed to Save, Serve and Protect the public, and though there will never be full TRUE Justice, we must all see this as a stepping stone to move forward. We must also never waver and never back down from the evil. We must carry on with this battle ... In Our Brother's Honor.

May you be resting with peace Officer Mason Samborski ... We have the watch from here.

Already by the age of 16, Belton had a criminal history for assault on an officer and illegally carrying a concealed gun. This POS had been defiant during the entire trial and continued to show no remorse when he was sentenced. He did state, "You all know this is not over" and has already said he will appeal. His family stands behind his heinous actions.
