S'pore steps up airport security

SINGAPORE - Following fears triggered by the discovery of a parcel bomb plot on cargo planes last week, Singapore airport authorities have put in place enhanced measures for cargo flights, a police spokesperson said in response to MediaCorp queries.

There is already a robust screening system to ensure that all persons, bags and cargoes on passenger flights departing Singapore are secure.

Similarly, all cargoes arriving in Singapore are subjected to checks and screening.

But "the airport community has been urged to heighten its level of vigilance", said the spokesperson.

Added the spokesperson: "For those who have dealings with the airport, we seek your full support and understanding for any inconvenience that could arise as a result of these enhanced security measures". LINK
