Police arrest Yishun trio for illegal fireworks offences

SINGAPORE: Police have arrested a 68-year-old shop-owner for illegally selling fireworks and two teenagers for playing with them.

The teenagers were found in possession of a pack of 'Fun Snaps' fireworks pellets at Northpoint Shopping Centre in Yishun.

Preliminary investigations indicated the duo had thrown two pellets of 'Fun Snaps' from the second floor of the shopping centre.

Upon impact on the ground, both pellets emitted explosive sounds and white residue.

The two teenagers were arrested for discharging dangerous fireworks and the pack of 'Fun Snaps' seized as a case exhibit.

Following the arrest, officers raided a shop at Yishun Street 21 which was believed to have sold the fireworks to the teenagers and seized several packs of 'Fun Snaps'.

The shop-owner was arrested for selling dangerous fireworks.

Police say the pellets of 'Fun Snaps' are a variant of sandcrackers categorised as dangerous fireworks under the Dangerous Fireworks Act. LINK
