Ionescu to remain being detained in Bucharest prison

Former Romanian diplomat Silviu Ionescu will remain in prison in Bucharest after his appeal to be released from detention was denied yesterday by Romania's courts.

Romanian prosecutors argued successfully against his appeal to be put under judicial supervision, and the judge extended the ex-diplomat's detention warrant.

Ionescu, 50, is accused of hitting three pedestrians in two hit-and-run accidents in Bukit Panjang on Dec 15 last year. One of them died.

Ionescu will be in court again on Nov 17.
