Ionescu could be released from detention

Bucharest (Romania)- A Romanian Court has accepted former diplomat Silviu Ionescu's request to be released from detention under judicial suspension, according to Ionescu's lawyer Nelu Tasca.

After a failed attempt earlier to secure a release, Ionescu will be released from detention today unless the prosecutors appeal by 3.30pm Romanian time (9.30pm, Singapore time).

Ionescu is on trial for two hit-and-run accidents in Singapore in December last year which claimed the life of a pedestrian.

He is due to appear in court again on November 17. Ionescu has denied responsibility for the accidents. LINK
