British author Shadrake guilty of contempt of court

SINGAPORE: British author Alan Shadrake has been found guilty of contempt of court for 11 passages in his book, "Once A Jolly Hangman: Singapore Justice In The Dock".

He had been accused of undermining the judicial system here in 14 passages in the book.

In his judgment, Justice Loh said he had considered if the book posed a real risk of eroding public confidence in the courts.
The judge took issue with 11 of the 14 passages in question as they were made "without any rational basis" and therefore did not constitute fair criticism.

His sentencing will be passed on Tuesday, and faces a possible jail term, a fine, or both. Shadrake is also being investigated for criminal defamation. LINK
