But the bomoh (Malay for medicine man), 55, molested the girl in the toilet of her home.
When the teen told her mother what had happened, the latter did not believe her. She even asked her elderly parents over to her flat to be cured.
It was the girl’s aunt who eventually took the girl to make a police report.
After a five-day trial, Al-Habib Sheih Haji Ismail Al Mahberoh, was jailed 10months for molesting the Secondary 2 student. The prosecution is appealing against his sentence.
In his grounds of decision released last week, District Judge Toh Yong Cheong noted that Al-Habib committed the offence by deception and trickery.
The girl, now 15, cannot be named under the law.
