AS A police officer attached to the Tuas checkpoint, he was supposed to register prohibited items seized from travellers and notify his division.

Tan Zhi Hong, 27, did neither. Instead, the staff sergeant took items such as car flares, “pop pop” crackers and stun guns home between Oct 4, 2008, and March 1 last year.

He was found out only when police raided his flat at Bukit Batok Street 21 for illegal 4-D bookmaking on March 11 last year.

Yesterday, Tan was sentenced to 12 weeks in jail and fined $4,000 for criminal breach of trust, and for buying illegal 4-D lottery. LINK
