Man convicted of killer litter has jail term reduced

SINGAPORE - There can be no excuse for people to throw killer litter out of their flats, a High Court judge ruled yesterday. As long as they can tell right from wrong, they will be jailed, said Justice V K Rajah.

The judge made this point during the appeal of pizza delivery man, Tan Kwan Sin, 21, who had been jailed six weeks for throwing the leg of a chair out of his flat on Jan 31. It slightly injured a passer-by below.

Although Tan was "not the brightest bulb in the box", he knew right from wrong and could hold down a job, the judge said.

But he acknowledged that the sentence imposed by the district judge was excessive and reduced it to three weeks in prison. MORE
