Good news, bad news - HDB

SINGAPORE - Newly-wed couples waiting to move into their HDB flats might find some cheer in the news that they may be able to live on their own should the Government revive the Transitional Rental Housing Scheme.

The scheme was useful at the height of the property boom in the mid-'90s, when there were 150,000 applicants in the queue for HDB flats and the waiting time was between six and seven years.

But for another group - ethnic minority HDB flat owners, especially those who face difficulty in selling their flats because of Ethnic Integration Policy (EIP) constraints - relief is not in sight. MORE
