France 0-1 Belarus
They were cheered on to the pitch by flag-waving fans but were booed off after Belarus substitute Sergei Kislyak netted the 86th-minute winner with his side’s only clear chance.

Spain 4-0 Liechtenstein
Liverpool coach Roy Hodgson wanted Torres to miss the game but Spain ignored the request and the striker was on target in the 18th and 54th minute before being substituted. David Villa and substitute David Silva scored the other goals.

Holland 5-0 San Marino
Holland saw off San Marino 5-0 in Group E with a hat-trick from Klaas-Jan Huntelaar. Liverpool’s Dirk Kuyt added a penalty.

Cyprus 4-4 Portugal
With Cristiano Ronaldo injured and coach Carlos Queiroz suspended, the Cypriots added to Portugal’s woes by twice taking the lead. A late equaliser by Andreas Avraam gave Cyprus a sensational 4-4 draw against Portugal in Guimaraes.

Germany 1-0 Belgium
Miroslav Klose goal early in the second half gave Germany victory over Belgium in Brussels. MORE
