SINGAPORE - A new taxi service - on the water - may not only make traffic jams a thing of the past for Formula One revellers this weekend but may herald a sign of things to come.
River cruise operator Ducktours began its Bumble Bees on Saturday and, for $3 to $9, Singaporeans and tourists can beat toll gantries and peak-hour cab surcharges by hopping onto the black-and-yellow boats between the Jiak Kim jetty and the Esplanade.
The four 24-seat electric boats take 12 minutes to get from Clarke Quay to the Esplanade and 18 minutes to the Singapore Flyer. Passengers can also request to head to the Marina Barrage from any Ducktours or Hippo River Cruises river kiosk. For return water taxi rides, Ducktours' prices range from $5 to $15.
