'Too early' to extend F1 races

Despite Formula One supremo Bernie Ecclestone's pronouncement last week that he wants the Singapore Grand Prix to be staged for the next 20 years, Senior Minister of State (Trade & Industry, and Education) S Iswaran said on Sunday that it is too early to talk about an extension.

'I would say the decision to proceed will rest on a robust cost-benefit analysis, and clearly the terms on any deal we get going forward'.

Government agencies involved in organising the event will do a detailed review before the current contract runs out in 2012, he said. The five-year deal includes an option for a two-year extension. MORE
