This is among the changes to the Road Traffic Act - some of which are aimed at enhancing the Traffic Police's (TP) operational effectiveness and efficiency - passed by Parliament yesterday.

Previously, suspensions kick in only after an offender is charged and convicted in court.

Senior Minister of State for Law and Home Affairs Ho Peng Kee cited an incident in 2005 where a reckless motorist crashed the sports car he was test-driving, killing the car sales agent with him. He then went shopping for another sports car.
