Alleged plot to kill Pope during UK visit

Five men have been arrested in London and were being questioned in connection with an alleged plan to assassinate Pope Benedict XVI on the second day of his tour of Britain, the police said on Friday.
The men are street cleaners who work for a private contractor called Veolia Environmental Services used by the Westminster City Council. They were arrested under the Terrorism Act.

Media reports said the men, aged between 26 and 50, were from Algeria.

A Vatican spokesman said the Pope was not worried. He added that the Vatican has complete trust in the British police and does not consider the situation particularly dangerous. MORE
