SINGAPORE - Speak Good English Movement's chairman Goh Eck Kheng was shocked by an email recently. It was not just the sms-language - truncated words and poor spelling - but that it came from a senior manager of a "service-oriented" company.
However, some educators told MediaCorp that poor spelling and grammar stemming from sms-language is not as widespread as feared.
"The students don't use such language in their assignments, not even for reports which are not graded," said Institute of Technical Education's director and covering deputy director (Academic) Ng Lee Keng."
The Speak Good English campaign begins on Sept 7.
