If you have listened to some in the media, purported civil rights leader Al Sharpton, New York City Mayor Bill de Blasio, and others around the country over the last several weeks, you’re forced to believe that nearly all of America’s local and state police are out to kill minorities.
It’s a lie! It’s a lie that has inflamed the hearts and minds of many and turned them against every cop in the nation. It’s a lie that has the potential to rip America at its seams and cause damage far worse than any attack on our country, including that on 9/11/2001.
It’s a lie that has caused protests and riots all over this nation, communities to be burned to the ground, police officers to be attacked and beaten, and horribly, two New York City police officers to be assassinated.
Anti-Police Rhetoric Worst in 45 Years
Michael Brown and Eric Garner died resisting arrest. Officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu died doing their job. It is a very important distinction.
Michael Brown and Eric Garner were committing crimes. Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu were protecting all the citizens of New York City.
The national dialogue on proper and effective policing has been totally distorted. Activists purporting to represent the majority of the black community have been bolstered by a 24 hour news cycle that gives them unwarranted credibility.
There are 18,000 police departments in the United States. They interact millions of times with the public, and make hundreds of thousands of arrests. Very few result in a suspect’s death or injury. We do not have police forces out of control as the media of the world would have us believe.
Does that mean that there are not serious incidents of police abuse or misjudgment? Of course there are. When they take place we should investigate them thoroughly and prosecute and punish those who committed the wrong doing. We should not burn down buildings and murder police officers.
NYPD Slayings Widen Rift Between Police and Mayor
Mayor Bill de Blasio got a chilly reception from NYPD officers at Woodhull Hospital Saturday after two officers were shot to death in Brooklyn.
In video posted on YouTube, police officers can be seen silent, with their backs turned to the mayor as he walks by.
Following the shooting of officers Rafael Ramos and Wenjian Liu in Bedford-Stuyvesant Saturday afternoon, police union officials blasted the mayor, saying the blood of the two officers were on his hands, CBS News reports.
