Manchester City overcame the sending-off of Eliaquim Mangala to ease to a 3-0 win at St Mary's Stadium as the champions replaced Southampton in second place in the Barclays Premier League.

Southampton were given a reality check by Manuel Pellegrini's side as Yaya Toure, Frank Lampard and Gael Clichy got on the scoresheet for the visitors.

Ronald Koeman's team, who had won their last five home top-flight games while conceding just one goal, were given hope when Mangala was sent off for a second bookable offence at 1-0 down with 16 minutes leftm but it mattered little.

The Southampton goalkeeper did well to deny Aguero as he raced clean through on another counter, but the forward turned provider once more in the closing stages to set up Clichy for a third, the left-back’s first goal for the club.

Tottenham Hotspur come from behind to beat Everton
Sunday's other Premier League match saw Tottenham Hotspur come from behind to beat Everton 2-1 at White Hart Lane in a match where Spurs striker Roberto Soldado scored the winner to end his near 10-hour wait for a goal in all competitions.

Kevin Mirallas gave visitors Everton a 15th-minute lead before Christian Eriksen equalised six minutes later.

Then, in first-half stoppage-time, former Valencia forward Soldado kept his composure to beat Everton goalkeeper Tim Howard with a low shot after a fine pass from Aaron Lennon. His strike meant Soldado ended a run of 593 minutes without a goal.

Victory saw Tottenham climb above Everton and into seventh place, level on points with arch north London rivals Arsenal.
