The Singapore Tourism Board (STB) has reached out to a Vietnamese tourist who went down on his knees, tearfully begging for a refund at Sim Lim Square, after he was reportedly scammed by a shop named Mobile Air.
The shop had reportedly tried to force him to pay an additional S$1,500 for a warranty on an iPhone 6, which he had bought for S$950. He only managed to recover S$400.
In response to media queries on Thursday (Nov 6), STB's Director of Visitor Information and Experience, Ms Choo Huei Miin said they will be "facilitating any necessary follow up actions he might wish to undertake". They will also provide additional assistance if required she said.
She added that STB "takes a serious view of errant retailers who besmirch the reputation of Singapore", and said they will take necessary actions under the Consumer Protection (Fair Trading) Act if there is evidence of unfair practices.
