An oil spill from a tanker that was involved in an accident on the Seletar Expressway on Sunday shut down a part of the highway for more than 12 hours, the Land Transport Authority (LTA) said yesterday.

In a statement, the LTA said the oil spill affected all four lanes of the SLE and a stretch of it was closed so it could be cleaned up immediately.

The accident on Sunday occurred at around 9am and involved a truck, a private bus, a diesel tanker and a car. Five people — four passengers and the bus driver — sustained minor injuries. All were conscious when they were taken to Khoo Teck Puat Hospital.

An LTA spokesperson said the road was found to be too slippery after the oil spill and could not be immediately reopened for public use.

The affected sections were resurfaced and the SLE was progressively reopened from around 11.30pm on Sunday night, added the spokesperson.

The affected lanes were fully reopened at around 4am yesterday.
