Singaporeans advised to leave Yemen due to ‘fluid and uncertain’ situation: MFA

The security situation in Yemen now is “fluid and uncertain”, which is why Singaporeans are “strongly advised” not to travel there. For those who are there, they should leave the country “while it is still feasible”, said the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Wednesday (Nov 26).

Yemen announced in November a new 36-member government after a political crisis. However, former president Ali Abdullah Saleh and his party walked out of the cabinet shortly after as he rejected the UN Security Council sanctions imposed on him for obstructing peace, throwing the country into further instability.

“Should the situation further deteriorate, Singaporeans may face difficulties leaving Yemen,” the MFA said in its travel advisory. “Many airlines have already stopped flying in and out of Yemen and those still doing so might cancel their flights with little or no notice.”

Singaporeans thinking of heading to the country are “strongly advised” not to, the ministry added.
