Ayoze Perez continued his fine form in front of goal as Newcastle United earned a fifth straight win by beating West Bromwich Albion 2-0.

The Spaniard was restored to the starting XI on Sunday after scoring the winner in each of Newcastle's last two Barclays Premier League matches.

And the forward - signed from Tenerife in the close-season - once again repaid the faith of his manager by putting Newcastle ahead at The Hawthorns with a brilliant flick in the final minute of the first half.

West Brom pressed to try and level the scores but were caught on the break by a visiting side that played largely on the counter.

Captain Fabricio Coloccini headed home Newcastle's second and there proved to be no way back for West Brom, who have now won just one of their last six matches.

Newcastle now head into the international break just outside the top six as their outstanding and somewhat surprising renaissance goes on.

A second-half penalty from Leighton Baines secured a 1-1 Barclays Premier League draw for Everton at Sunderland on Sunday.

Sebastian Larsson brought the Stadium of Light to its feet with a fine 67th-minute free-kick but England full-back Baines made no mistake from 12 yards nine minutes later after Connor Wickham had brought down Seamus Coleman.

Roberto Martinez's team are now unbeaten over six matches in all competitions since the recent Manchester United defeat.

Everton were also grateful for the efforts of James McCarthy, who cleared a goalbound header from Wes Brown off the line in stoppage time.

Sunderland edge three points clear of the relegation zone, although they might have been better off if Brown had scored that injury-time header.

Stoke City added to Tottenham Hotspur's home woes in the Barclays Premier League with a 2-1 victory at White Hart Lane on Sunday.

Goals from Bojan Krkic and Jonathan Walters subjected Spurs to a fourth home defeat of the top-flight season and Stoke's first league win over them since 2011.

Bojan's mazy dribble led to his first goal of the campaign in the opening six minutes, while Walters added a second just after the half-hour with a close-range volley. Pochettino's attempts to revive Spurs after the break took time, but eventually the hosts got back into the match as Nacer Chadli volleyed home from a narrow angle in the 78th minute.

Spurs continued to push for an equaliser, but were hampered by Kyle Naugton's late dismissal and Stoke's defence remained resolute to record a second league win away from home this term.

Victory lifts the visitors back into the top 10, while Spurs' third league defeat in four matches drops them into the bottom half.

Arsenal were again unable to hold on to a lead as Swansea City fought back to secure a 2-1 Barclays Premier League win at the Liberty Stadium.

Arsene Wenger's side had surrendered a three-goal advantage to draw 3-3 with Anderlecht in the UEFA Champions League on Tuesday and struggled again on Sunday. Alexis Sanchez's seventh goal in his last six matches looked to have put the visitors on course for a third consecutive victory in the top flight, but Swansea struck twice in the space of three minutes to secure the points.

Gylfi Sigurdsson levelled 15 minutes from time with a sublime free-kick and Bafetimbi Gomis scored his first Barclays Premier League goal just two minutes after coming on to stun Arsenal in the driving rain.

Victory for Swansea was only their second in their past eight Barclays Premier League outings and moved them above Arsenal into fifth, with Wenger's men slipping a place further back heading into the international break.
