New bus services for Bukit Batok, Kent Ridge from November

Two new bus services will be introduced and supplementary bus services will be added to two bus services in November as part of the Bus Service Enhancement Programme (BSEP).

The Land Transport Authority (LTA), SBS Transit, and SMRT announced this in a joint news release on Monday (Nov 3).

One existing bus service will also be amended, the release said.

NEW BUS SERVICES

New service 990, will operate from Bukit Batok Bus Interchange from Nov 15. It will ply Bukit Batok East Avenue 3, Bukit Batok East Avenue 6, Bukit Batok Avenue 1, Jurong East Central, Toh Guan Road and Boon Lay Way to loop around Jurong Gateway Road to Jurong East MRT station and bus interchange.

Service 990 will also provide access to malls in Jurong East and the upcoming Jurong General Hospital, according to the release.

The second new service will be bus service 201, starting from Nov 23. Operated by SBS Transit, it is a loop service commencing from Kent Ridge Bus Terminal, plying West Coast Road, Clementi Avenue 2, Commonwealth Avenue West (where Clementi MRT station is located), Clementi Avenue 6 and Ayer Rajah Expressway (AYE) to Penjuru Road, and loop around Teban Gardens Road and Pandan Gardens.

The new service will also provide access to places such as Teban Gardens Market and Hawker Centre, Ayer Rajah Community Centre, West Coast Plaza, Commonwealth Secondary School, Kent Ridge Secondary School, Clementi Woods Secondary School and Waseda Shibuya Senior High School.

SUPPLEMENTARY BUS SERVICES

Bus service 43M, operated by SBS Transit, will supplement bus service 43 from Nov 16. The service will serve Punggol Way, Sengkang East Road, Sengkang Central, Buangkok Drive, Buangkok Green, Yio Chu Kang Road, Yio Chu Kang Link, Upper Serangoon Road and Serangoon Central.

The supplementary service aims to alleviate crowding and reduce waiting time for commuters travelling between Punggol and Serangoon Central, and provides access to Punggol and Serangoon Bus Interchanges, Punggol, Buangkok and Serangoon MRT Stations.

SBS Transit bus service 17A, which runs between Bedok Avenue 4 and Bedok Bus Interchange will see its operating hours extended from Nov 16. While it currently operates during weekday peak periods, more trips will be included including on weekends from 5.55am to 11pm.

AMENDMENT TO SMRT BUS SERVICE 189

With the introduction of service 201, SMRT loop bus service 189 will be amended to ply Clementi Avenue 1 before looping back to Bukit Batok Bus Interchange from Nov 23. Its operating hours will be extended to 11.15pm daily as well.

The amended route aims to improve connectivity for commuters along Clementi Avenue 1, and aid access to NUS High School and Nan Hua High School, the release added.
