Narcotics and immigration officers have arrested a Malaysian driver and seized cannabis worth more than S$33,000.

The Central Narcotics Bureau said it was alerted to a suspected case of drug importation at the Woodlands Checkpoint by the Immigration & Checkpoints Authority on Saturday (22 Nov).

ICA officers found the cannabis, which weighs nearly 1kg, at the engine compartment of the car.

Investigations are ongoing against the 37-year-old driver.

Under the Misuse of Drugs Act, those convicted of importing more than 500g of cannabis may face the death penalty.
