Budding mixed martial arts (MMA) boxer Shahril Salim died on Thursday (Nov 27), two years after he sustained serious injury at the Juggernaut Fight Club.

The announcement of his death was posted on the "Wake The Bull Project" Facebook page by Shahril's brother.

The 23-year-old, nicknamed "The Bull" had fallen into a coma during one of his training sessions, a few days before his debut as a professional boxer in a championship scheduled at Marina Bay Sands.

The former ITE College East Simei student was supposed to represent his club and Singapore. He felt nauseous after his sparring session then, and passed out in the restroom. Shahril was immediately rushed to the Singapore General Hospital (SGH), and underwent multiple surgeries.

In August, an update to the Wake The Bull Project Facebook page said Shahril was doing better, and while unable to talk, let alone stand, he had indicated that he had wanted a walking stick.
