Defending champions Singapore defeated Myanmar 4-2 in their ASEAN Football Federation Suzuki Cup Group B match and are now second in the group behind leaders Thailand.
It was all Singapore in the first half as a Shaiful Esah goal and a brace by Hariss Harun gave Singapore a seemingly unassailable 3-0 lead in the first half.
In the second half, a goal by Kyaw Zayar Win in the 55th minute helped Myanmar reduce the arrears. Things got worse for Singapore in the 60th minute when the referee gave Myanmar a controversial penalty and Kyaw Ko Ko converted from the spot.
But Shaiful Esah came to Singapore's rescue as his freekick in the 76th minute deflected off Myanmar captain Khin Maung Lwin and went in for an own goal.
In the other Group B match at Jalan Besar Stadium, Thailand edged out Malaysia 3-2 to top the group and qualify for the semi-finals of the AFF Suzuki Cup.
Safiq Ramli gave Malaysia the lead in the 28th minute in a tight match but Thailand eventually prevailed after Adisak Kraisorn scored a goal late in the match to give his team the win.
