A number of Singaporeans have been injured in Japan after a truck and a tour bus collided in Hokkaido's Nanae Town. According to a report on NHK, the drivers of both vehicles have died. There were 33 passengers on the tour bus, all of whom were Singaporeans.

Police said they received an emergency call at 9.43am (8.43am Singapore time) on Thursday (Oct 23) that a tour bus had collided with a truck on Route Number Five, which connects the port city of Hakodate and Sapporo in northern Japan. The bus had been heading for Hokkaido's largest city, Sapporo.

Police confirmed that many passengers suffered minor injuries and are recovering from shock. While most have left hospital after receiving treatment, one victim has been warded.

An eyewitness told police that the two-tonne truck had crossed into the opposite lane and collided with the oncoming bus. The bus is owned by Asahi Kanko Bus - a company which specialises in sightseeing tours.

A spokesman from Hong Thai Travel Services in Singapore, which handled the tour, said several of the Singaporeans suffered sprains, but none sustained major injuries. He said that the company is contacting the tourists in Japan.

A representative from Hong Thai Travel Services will be flying to Japan to get more details on the situation, and the company is still investigating, he added.
