SANZAR (SANZAR (South Africa, New Zealand and Australia Rugby), the body that runs Super Rugby, has decided that between Singapore and Japan, the latter is its preferred candidate for the competition's 18th team when it expands in 2016.

The SANZAR chief added that SANZAR will now work exclusively with the Japan Rugby Football Union (JRFU) to finalise arrangements for their entry to Super Rugby, subject to execution of the formal participation agreement.

No further comment from either party will be issued until the process is concluded, he said.
