Fire in Hougang traps teen in flat

The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) rescued a teenager trapped in a flat along Hougang Street 11 on Thursday (Oct 23), following a fire at Block 158.

SCDF said they were alerted to the fire at 3.29pm. Its officers had to force open the metal grill in order to enter the apartment. They found the blaze in the living room. The male teen was sent to hospital for smoke inhalation.

Officers extinguished the fire within five minutes, using one water jet. Karen Lau shared video of a large plume of smoke emanating from the window at 3.45pm.

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
