The mother who sneaked into Singapore by sea in an attempt to wrest her two-year-old son from her husband’s family was yesterday sentenced to 10 weeks in prison.
Her accomplices, Adam Whittington, 38, and Todd Wilson, 39, who took her into Singapore illegally on a catamaran from Langkawi, Malaysia, were also sentenced to 16 weeks and 10 weeks in jail, respectively.
The 30-year-old woman — whose name and nationality cannot be revealed to protect the identity of the child — had been granted custody of her son by an English court after she and her Singaporean husband filed for divorce.
However, an interim order restraining her from taking the child out of Singapore was issued by the Family Court here on Jan 23.

Fearful that she would be arrested if she entered Singapore through immigration (as the boy’s father had filed police reports against her), she got Whittington, who holds British and Australian citizenships, to find a way for her to enter Singapore.
Whittington made several trips to Singapore to observe potential entry points, including Raffles Marina.
He also looked into the situation at the apartment of the boy’s grandparents. With the help of Wilson, an Australian, who helped steer the catamaran on which they travelled, the trio met in Langkawi on Aug 14.
They reached Singapore waters shortly after 6am on Aug 19 at Raffles Marina, a country club with berthing facilities in Tuas, but did not get authority for landing nor going through immigration.
Whittington was also involved in a scuffle with the boy’s paternal grandparents near their home, which resulted in injuries.
The jail terms will start from Aug 21 when they were remanded.
