Singapore's national netball team got off to a flying start, thrashing Japan on Day One of the Mission Foods Asian Netball Championships on Sunday (Sep 7).
The defending champions beat Japan 67-13 at the Sports Hub's OCBC Arena.
The Singapore players showed their superiority right from the start, going up 25-2 by the first quarter.
The team featured three debutants - defender Anna Soo, goal shooter Natalie Long and centre Kimberly Lim. The players also used their height advantage well, and proved more aggressive and organised than their Japanese counterparts.
Singapore will meet Vietnam on Monday. Singapore will also face Hong Kong and India in Group A. Group B features Sri Lanka, Malaysia, Brunei, Taiwan and Myanmar. Singapore are the reigning champions after beating Sri Lanka in the 2012 final.
Lin Qingyi, Team Captain of Singapore netball team, said: "The strength for us has always been to play a flat, fast game. And I think the three girls (debutants) did really well. It's their first game. I think they performed up to what we expected of them. I think it's a good start for the team in general."
