The vehicles had been travelling in the direction of Changi near the Toa Payoh Lorong 1 exit.
The Singapore Civil Defence Force (SCDF) told Channel NewsAsia it was alerted to the crash at about 5:20pm. SCDF said it sent two fire engines, three ambulances and three support vehicles to the scene.
Police say there were 13 vehicles involved in the accident in total - seven cars two lorries, two vans and two tipper trucks.
One of the lorry drivers was trapped and had to be pried out by SCDF using a hydraulic spreader cutter. He was seriously injured and sent to Tan Tock Seng Hospital (TTSH). A little girl was seriously wounded as well, and was sent to KK Women's and Children's Hospital. Three other people injured were sent to TTSH.
The accident caused a long tail-back during the evening peak-hour. The Land Transport Authority tweeted that the congestion stretched all the way to Clementi and Bukit Batok East.
