After a disappointing Malaysian Super League campaign, the LionsXII once again tasted bitter defeat on Saturday (Aug 23) evening.
They lost 2-1 to Johor Darul Takzim II in the Malaysia Cup at the Pasir Gudang Stadium in Johor Bahru.
The Lions went on an early offensive, but it was Johor's Syafiq Shahrudin who seized his chance in the 21st minute.
Receiving a clean pass from Nursalam Abidin, he slammed the ball past Lions goalkeeper Izwan Mahbud for the lead.
The Lions managed an equaliser in the 51st minute, with Shakir Hamzah delivering a low cross that left Johor's keeper open, leaving Hafiz Sujad to finish the job.
But Johor went ahead again late in the game - Syafiq Shahrudin crossing to substitute Fandi Ahmad, sending the ball into the back of the net, and the Lions packing home.
