Starting today (1 Jul), motorcyclists will be charged by the minute at carparks installed with the Electronic Parking System (EPS), the Housing Development Board (HDB) and Urban Development Authority (URA) said in a joint statement today.
Motorcyclists are currently charged $0.65 per entry at these carparks.
The new rate will be $0.20 per hour, or $0.00333 per minute, but will still be capped at $0.65 per Day or Night session, or $1.30 for a full day's parking at each carpark.
A typical despatch rider who makes about 20 15-minute delivery trips
daily, of which five are to EPS carparks, and who works 20 days a month
will be able to save $720 a year on parking charges.
Minister for National Development Khaw Boon Wan said on his blog today that the new rate will benefit the delivery riders who bear parking charges themselves.
"We have helped these riders by capping their parking fees at $0.65 per entry into each HDB or URA car park. But because they may cover several carparks, they can still chalk up considerable parking charges...
"I am happy to announce that HDB and URA will be implementing per-minute parking for motorcycles parking at their EPS carparks from tomorrow... They will pay less than before, much less."
