Arsenal close in on Chile international Alexis Sanchez
Liverpool have admitted defeat in their attempts to sign Barcelona striker Alexis Sanchez.

The Reds hierarchy had held talks with the Chilean international star, hoping that he would be keen on a move to Anfield as a makeweight in the Luis Suarez deal.

However, according to the Liverpool Echo, the Reds have been unable to convince the 25-year-old that his future is best served on Merseysiden, as he closes in on a £30million move to Arsenal.

However, Sanchez prefers a move to the Emirates Stadium, and his representatives have informed Liverpool that he is likely to join Arsene Wenger's men.

Arsenal want Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic on loan
Arsenal want to recruit Juventus striker Mirko Vucinic.

But there is a major stumbling block that is delaying any move.

The Italian club want to sell the Montenegro international but Arsenal only want Vucinic until the end of the season and only want to pay a loan fee of around £1.5million.

Tottenham and Arsenal both in hunt for Holland's centre-back Joel Veltman
Tottenham Hotspur are still keen to sign Ajax centre-back Joel Veltman - but could face still competition from north London rivals Arsenal.

The 22-year-old defender is in Louis van Gaal’s Holland squad in Brazil but was on Spurs’ radar long before Mauricio Pochettino replaced Tim Sherwood in the hotseat.

Arsenal, however, look set to lose Thomas Vermaelen to Manchester United and could rival Spurs for Veltman as a replacement.

Arsenal resurrect transfer interest in Lars Bender
Arsene Wenger is ready to carry on his summer spending spree with ‎a move for Germany midfielder Lars Bender.

Arsenal boss Wenger is closing in on £35million worth of deals for Barcelona forward Alexis Sanchez and Newcastle full-back Mathieu Debuchy.

But he also wants a holding midfielder, and the Gunners have gone back to their first choice in that position and want to do a deal for Bender.

The Londoners have tracked the Bayer Leverkusen midfielder, 25, for more than a year and are hoping to now get their man for £15m.

Leverkusen are reluctant to sell but Arsenal are hoping they can lure him with a big contract and the offer of Champions League football.

Manchester City confirm Fernando transfer from Porto in £12million deal
Manchester City have confirmed the capture of Fernando from Porto.

The defensive-minded midfielder joins for a reported £12m and will wear the number six jersey at the Etihad next term.

City's hopes of signing Fernando were dashed back in January, but Manuel Pellegrini has moved quickly to bring the 26-year-old to the club ahead of next season.

Fernando explained that his desire to help City retain their Premier League crown was a big factor behind him making the move from Portugal.

Angel Di Maria subject of €60million bid from Man Utd
Spanish newspaper AS reports that both United and Paris Saint Germain have offered €60million for Angel Di Maria.

The Argentine enjoyed a fine season for Real Madrid last time out but is said to be considering his options as he feels undervalued at the Bernabeu.

Louis van Gaal has made Di Maria one of his top targets and believes the high-profile signing would be a real signal of his intent with the Red Devils.

Manchester City and Monaco are also believed to be tracking the winger but will not pay over the odds.

United told to up bid or shut up over Daryl Janmaat
United have been told to up their bid for Netherlands right back Daryl Janmaat.

The Daily Star on Sunday suggest the club have already offered £4million for the 24-year-old's services.

But Feyenoord are apparently holding out for closer to £7million.

Newcastle are also hot on the trail as they seek a replacement for Arsenal-bound Mathieu Debuchy.

It is thought though that Van Gaal's already close relationship with the player could swing things United's way.

Stefan de Vrij to follow Dutch boss Louis van Gaal to Old Trafford?
Feyenoord defender Stefan de Vrij is heading for Old Trafford in the coming weeks, according to the Mail.

The 22-year-old has impressed for Louis van Gaal's Holland side at the World Cup, with right-back Daryl Janmaat also on the radar.

However, it is De Vrij who remains a priority and after he rejected a move to Lazio, a switch to United appears on the horizon once a formal offer is accepted.

Chelsea plot ambitious move for Real Madrid defender Raphael Varane
Jose Mourinho is making ambitious moves to sign Real Madrid‘s Raphael Varane.

The Chelsea boss is a big admirer of the young defender who was involved in an amazing bust-up with Atletico Madrid boss Diego Simeone in the Champions League final.

Mourinho believes Varane would be a perfect replacement for David Luiz and Chelsea representatives have made overtures to Madrid to see if they would be prepared to sell.

The Blues already have Kurt Zouma coming in from St Etienne but want to bring in another defender.
