Mexico beat Cameroon 1-0 despite two goals ruled offside
A tight first half saw two goals from Mexico and one goal from Cameroon disallowed by referee.

Mexico had a better start by dominating the first ten minutes though.

In the 11th mintue, Mexico was awarded a free-kick near the box. Hector Herrera sent a delightful ball into the box to find Dos Santos before the No. 10 touched the ball home, but the linesman had his flag up.

Four minutes later, Eto'o sent in a cross that Choupo Moting finishes but just like on the other end, the play was ruled offside. In the 29th minute, Miguel Layun's corner is finished by Dos Santos but for the third time the goal has been disallowed.

But Mexico's continuous efforts were paid back when forward Peralta hit the target in the 61st minute. Dos Santos saw his effort denied by Cameroon's goalkeeper Itandje, but the rebound was taken up by Peralta as he found the back of the net to put El Tri in front.

Defending champions soundly trashed by Netherlands
In the repeat of the 2010 World Cup final, Netherlands produced one of the biggest shocks in World Cup history by coming from behind to annihilate reigning champions Spain 5-1 in a stunned Arena Fonte Nova.

Spain lived up to their favourites tag by opening the scoring through a Xabi Alonso penalty, but Robin van Persie equalised with an incredible diving header just before half-time and Arjen Robben put Netherlands in front with a cool finish.

Stefan de Vrij forced in a third from Wesley Sneijder's free-kick, Van Persie dispossessed goalkeeper Iker Casillas to make it four and Robben's brilliant solo effort sealed the win.

Spain, looking to win a fourth consecutive major international trophy, were humbled and humiliated.

The last time they conceded five goals in an international match was in 1963. This could signal the end of an era for one of the game's greatest teams.

Netherlands left the field at the break embracing each other with wide smiles - Spain looked shellshocked - and they carried that momentum into the second half.

Battling Socceroos take Chile to the wire
Alexis Sanchez scored one and made another as Chile started their World Cup campaign with a 3-1 win over Australia.

Sanchez finished from close range in the 12th minute and then set up Jorge Valdivia to drive in from outside the area two minutes later.

Former Everton midfielder Tim Cahill pulled one back with a header from Ivan Franjic's cross before half-time.

After an anxious second half, Wigan's Jean Beausejour's long-range effort added Chile's third in added time.
