No job interview despite many applications

I echo the views expressed by Mr Yeow Hwee Ming ("Ease plight of jobless PMEs"; last Thursday).

I am one of the many professionals, managers and executives (PMEs) who have lost their jobs and face difficulty getting a new one, a group highlighted by Mr Yeow.

I sent out more than 40 applications within the one-and-a-half months that I was out of a job.

All my applications were for lower-level jobs and had clearly indicated a lower salary range.

I also fully agree with Mr Yeow that employers and human resource practitioners need to really rethink their hiring policies for senior PMEs like us, because it is a very clear case that they marginalise us because of our age.

I never got a chance for a face-to-face interview despite my many applications. It was simply a straight rejection from the outset. In the end, I had no choice but to apply to work as a taxi driver.

About 90 per cent of the job applications I had sent were through agencies such as JobStreet or JobsDB. But I have not received a single call for an interview.
