Manchester City have emerged as Arsenal’s biggest rival for Cesc Fabregas.

Barcelona are prepared to sell their Spain international for £30million and he is set to return to the Premier League.

The midfielder appeals to City as he would boost their quota of home-grown players, qualifying for that category as he was developed at Arsenal.

He is good value for a world-class player, his £100,000-a-week wages at the Nou Camp less than half what City pay Yaya Toure.

City are understood to be at the front of the queue of interested clubs, which could also include Liverpool. But Manchester United have gone cold on him now Louis van Gaal is in charge.

The Gunners still have a trump card from a sell-on clause when their former captain moved to Barca three years ago.

They have first refusal on buying Fabregas, get a huge chunk of any profit Barca make if he goes elsewhere and are a big emotional pull for the player.
