Liverpool have hit a brick wall in their attempt to land rising young Spanish star Alberto Moreno.

And that could persuade the Reds' boss Brendan Rodgers to switch his sights to another long-term target, Marcos Rojo.

The defender starred in Argentina's opening game at the World Cup this weekend, but they already know all about the 24-year-old, having watched him play for Sporting Lisbon for the past 18 months.

Rodgers has targeted Moreno as his number one defensive addition this summer but the La Liga side have now begun to play hardball over a fee.

If they continue to be so difficult Rodgers will revert to Plan B, with Sporting prepared to listen to offers for Rojo.
