Civil servants will get a mid-year bonus of half a month this year, slightly higher than the 0.4-month bonus given last year.

In a press release, the Public Service Division (PSD) said its Division IV officers, such as operations support officers, will receive S$70 more in their monthly wage — above the S$60 increment recommended by the National Wages Council (NWC) last month for low-wage workers earning up to S$1,000.

Division III officers, who include corporate support officers, will receive an additional S$30 in their monthly wage. These built-in salary increases will be over and above their annual increment this year. The adjustments — which will take effect from next month, the same time that the mid-year bonus will be paid out — will benefit about 9,000 Division IV and III civil servants in all.

The Singapore economy grew by 4.9 per cent in the first three months of the year, compared with the same period last year.

The PSD noted that global economic growth is expected to improve this year, supported by continued recovery in the United States and the eurozone. In Asia, China’s growth is expected to moderate slightly this year. “Nevertheless, downside risks remain, such as monetary conditions in the US tightening faster than expected,” said the PSD.

The PSD said the Government will decide on the quantum of the year-end bonus for civil servants after taking into consideration Singapore’s economic performance in the second half of the year.
