Singapore's top female badminton player Gu Juan has quit and will not be representing the Republic in the upcoming Uber Cup finals in New Delhi from May 18 to 25.

The Singapore Badminton Association (SBA) said in a statement on Sunday that Gu had submitted her resignation on April 30.

The China-born player cited " her desire to look after her aged parents and nagging injuries as reasons for her departure," SBA said.

Gu also felt the current coaching system was "unable to bring her to the next level", SBA added.

With Gu's withdrawal, Singapore's Uber Cup squad will comprise Chen Jia Yuan, Liang Xiao Yu, Vanessa Neo, Fu Mingtian, Yao Lei, Shinta Mulia Sari and Tan Wei Han.

The men's Thomas Cup team will be led by top local male shuttler Derek Wong and includes Huang Chao, Terry Hee, Chayut Triyachat, Danny Bawa Chrisnanta and Sean Lee.
