This year, 123 secondary schools will participate in the Direct School Admission Exercise, while 21 institutions will be involved in the exercise for junior colleges. All five polytechnics will participate in the Direct Polytechnic Admission Exercise.

Students interested in applying for direct admission to secondary schools, JCs and polytechnics can begin to do so from this month.

The Direct Admission Exercises scheme allows applicants who excel in their co-curricular activities and who show potential beyond their academic achievements priority for admissions.

Introduced by the Ministry of Education (MOE) in 2004, it was meant to give selected schools and polytechnics the flexibility to admit students with a more diverse range of achievements and talents through a transparent and meritocratic process.

The scheme recognises a more diverse range of talents, achievements and personal qualities in students, said the MOE yesterday.
