Jobless man charged with murder of 88-year-old woman

A 22-year-old man was yesterday charged with the murder of an 88-year-old woman at Teck Whye Lane more than a fortnight ago.

Muhammed Fazrie Mohamad Ridzuan is accused of causing the death of Madam Lee Ping Yeng at about 11am on April 12.

The unemployed man was arrested about two weeks later on April 28.

The police said that Mdm Lee was found with head injuries at the ninth-floor lift lobby of a Housing and Development Board block.

She was taken to the National University Hospital but died three days later.

Fazrie will be remanded for a week and his case will be heard again on May 6.

If found guilty of murder, he could be jailed for life and caned, or be sentenced to death.
