When Mr Tonny Neo heard the loud bang, he instinctively thought that something might fall and he tried to avoid it.
But he was too late.
Part of a boom (the lifting arm of a crane) pierced through the left side of his windscreen and headed for the back seat, where his wife and six-month-old baby were.
It stopped a mere 2cm from his son.
The Oct 29, 2011, accident has left Mr Neo with post-traumatic stress disorder and he still takes painkillers to sleep.
The lorry crane driver, Li Qiang, 40, had driven off from the worksite without checking if the crane arm was down.
He was jailed a week yesterday and banned from driving for nine months.
