When freelance football coach Faizal Noorali stepped out of his 12th-storey HDB flat in Choa Chu Kang at about 8am on Monday, he could smell burnt plastic.
He discovered a fire at a unit on the eight storey. He ran back to his five-room flat and told his family to go down to the void deck.
Mr Faizal, 33, then started alerting and evacuating his neighbours. He made several trips to save them despite inhaling smoke.
“There was no time to be scared. I knew I had to act fast and get everyone to safety,” he told The New Paper.
