Kids scream for help as grandpa sleeps during fire in AMK

Mrs Han Ming Juan had just stepped out of the shower at 7.40pm on Tuesday when she heard shouting outside her 13th-storey flat at Block 182, Ang Mo Kio Avenue 5.

She realised that her neighbours’ four sons were screaming: “Auntie, help! Auntie, help!”

When Mrs Han, who is in her 50s, and her husband went out, they were shocked to see their neighbours’ three-room flat on fire.

The boys, aged between 6 to 10, were trapped in the flat as the metal gate was locked. Their grandfather, 79, was still sleeping in his room, unaware of the fire.

The boys escaped through sliding window panes with the help of the Hans. The neighbours also put out the fire by throwing water through smashed windows.

The grandfather, Mr Loo, finally woke up when police officers entered the flat and knocked on his bedroom door.
