Just a day after opening, the Marina Coastal Expressway saw massive jams and frustrated commuters during the morning rush hour on Monday.
The 5km, 10-lane underground road cost $4.3 billion and four years to build. It joins the Kallang-Paya Lebar Expressway, East Coast Parkway and Ayer Rajah Expressway.
One of the worst-hit areas was the Central Business District at Marina South. Many motorists complained that they were stuck in congestion for more than an hour.
Motorists told The New Paper that bottlenecks and lack of information resulted in confusion.
Adjustments by the Land Transport Authority include converting a short stretch of Central Boulevard from two to four lanes, to enable better traffic flow into and along Central Boulevard towards Shenton Way.
More temporary signs at key approaches to alert motorists of the road network changes will also be put up and traffic wardens will continue to help direct motorists.
